oregonian sports department ceases publication?

Did the Oregonian go belly up?

They had stories about Oregon's 14-14 team, and about OSU's 15-15 team, but no article at all about UP's win over Santa Clara on Saturday.

I opened up the paper on Sunday and saw a teeney blurb that the article on the game would be online because of the late start, then looked online and saw nothing. I figure they must have folded and we just didn't hear about it. maybe Jim Beseda died.

In what other state does the sports department fail to mention the best D1 team in the state?

Pilots basketball: Jared Stohl leads nation in three-point shooting percentage

University of Portland junior guard Jared Stohl is leading the nation in three-point percentage after going 3-for-4 against Santa Clara on Saturday. The NCAA released its updated national statistics on Monday, and Stohl is now leading the list at 48.7 percent on the season.

He finished third nationally last season at 45.6 percent.

Since moving into the starting lineup for injured senior guard Nik Raivio on Jan. 21, Stohl has shot 46-of-87 from three-point range (52.9 percent) in 11 games and averaged 4.2 three-pointers a game during that stretch.

Stohl, a 6-foot-1 guard from Marysville, Wash., who also earned all-West Coast Conference honorable on Monday, has made 91-of-187 three-pointers this year and is already third on the UP single-season list. He will have a good shot of besting Peter McKelvey’s school record 106, which was set in 1991-92.

Stohl, already the UP career leader in three-pointers made, also moved into a tie for 10th place on the WCC charts for career three-pointers with 238. Former LMU standout Jeff Fryer (1987-90) owns the conference’s career record with 363.

Portland as a team is No. 7 nationally in three-point percentage (.406) after finishing second a year ago (.418).

The Pilots will pay tribute to seniors T.J. Campbell, Kramer Knutson, Taishi Ito, Robin Smeulders and Raivio before Tuesday's 7 p.m. non-conference game against NCAA Division III Lewis & Clark at the Chiles Center. General admission tickets are $5 for the game.

Looks like the Mercury news tucked a couple lines on the SCU-UP game in this article about West basketball, under a GU-USF headline: LINK.

Hmmm... Ian Ruder was definitely there at the Santa Clara game, and as far as I know he was writing special to the Oregonian.

I'm not sure you can call it a "fest" when it consisted of only 3 different bottled beers, two of which were pale ale's.
