The new red and black
Opened today's "O"
Bandon Roy retires, Greg Oden "less likely" to play this year (was he ever really likely?), and Lamarcus Aldrich undergoes testing for a heart issue and is out at least two weeks.
Discuss.

I am in pretty good shape for a guy with no height, quickness, jump shot, leaping ability. I might really suck out there, but I guarantee they will get 82 (or 66) games out of me. Heck, I'd even do it for a paltry salary of $2 million.

Amen, Wizz. I am so sick and tired of all the wailing and whining and gnashing of teeth over the Blazers. I dumped the Oregonian in the recycle bin before opening it this morning just based upon the headline: A sudden end for Roy. For god’s sake people, get a life (OF YOUR OWN)!mattywizz wrote:I am in pretty good shape for a guy with no height, quickness, jump shot, leaping ability. I'd be willing to not play for a lot less than Odin's 8.9 million.
The benching would be a lot more justified, and think of the savings!

It's going to be a long wait between the end of football in early February and the start of NASCAR at the end of February.

If I did the math correctly you should only have 16 days you need to fill. There are six Pilot basketball games in the three weeks between the Super Bowl and Daytona.

Dynasty.
To quote the words written by a certain other esteemed member of the board on my facebook wall:
"I think I might light myself on fire if he makes the roster"
I think if nothing else, it will give Geez competition locally for snapping up all those vintage Che Guevara posters lying around

Wasn't there, and didn't see it, but a friend who saw the game in Ontario tonight against 60% of the Lakers starters, said that Morrison "really looked good off the bench, and he and Leonard were far and away the best of the bench players for either team........."
Hey, it was the first exhibition game, anything can happen!

Re: The new red and black
I doubt anyone seriously considered Morrison would stick, but I really liked Karl's work during summer league and in the preseason...I hope we see him again, not because I'm a Blazer fan, but because I enjoy seeing hard work and talent rewarded.up7587 wrote:Not anymore. blazers_inform_coby_karl_adam_morrison_and_justinGeezaldinho wrote:Draft the Stache is a reality.

If he had played like he did in summer league, he might have! But they went with Sasha Pavlovic instead... Oh how the mighty have fallen!!

Well, technically, a tie for best record. Spurs are also 14-3. Surprising start, for sure.blacksheep wrote:Don't look now, but the Blazers have the best record in the West.

Re: The new red and black
And now 15-3! On the second night of a back-to-back no less against the league leaders. I saw an interesting stat heading into this game that this was the highest combined winning percentage of two teams meeting this late in the season since 1993. Big time.

Re: The new red and black
Enjoyed my first Blazer game in about 20 years last night (I go about once a year) and was very impressed by the team chemistry exhibited by Portland.
I hope some of the Pilots players were watching too....lots to be learned from this year's version of the Blazers regarding teamwork and selflessness. Those two attributes are constantly emphasized by the Pilots coaching staff and Captain Ryan Nicholas, and they are also attributes that should carry the Blazers into the playoffs......many, many months from now.
I hope the young Pilots also noticed when veteran guard Wesley Matthews hung his head after Pacer Paul George sank another 3-point shot over him (George had 43 points) in the closing seconds, and by doing so the Blazers risked blowing the game when Matthews' disgust with himself resulted in a Blazer turnover on the inbound pass.....not cool for a pro or a college player.

Paul George was unbelievable last night. I was not familiar with him, so I had to look up where he played college ball: Fresno State. What a shooter.

Re: The new red and black
After a blow-out win over Utah, the Blazers are now 17-3. But what caught my eye was that they shot 17-23 from 3pt range! That's 73.9%! The O reported that was the highest percentage in NBA history for any team making 15 or more threes.

Re: The new red and black
When I brought this thread back up at the beginning of the month, I just assumed that it was a fluke and the Blazers would come back to earth. Now, with almost a third of the season in the books, the Blazers have worked themselves into the best record in the League. I'm starting to think that maybe it isn't a fluke.
On a side note, I have not really been missing my Comcast subscription until now. I wish the games were more available.
