SMU game: time change Empty SMU game: time change

I just noticed on the Pilot website that Sunday's SMU game time has been changed:
www.portlandpilots.com wrote:Sunday's kickoff with the Mustangs was moved up to 10:30 a.m. to accommodate SMU's travel itinerary.
I wonder where they're traveling.

Sheesh, what gives?  I can't recall having a game so early before, even before we had lights.  And the short notice too.  I would have told them to [deal with it].  Their athletic department has had far more harrowing experiences to endure.

My guess it has to do with catching a flight -- especially if they have to go back to SeaTac to fly home.

And yeah, we had some 10:30 AM games in the pre-lights Days back when we had a lot of men-women double headers.

Hmm, maybe a bit harsh....these are college kids who's priority should be an education.

It is my understanding the SMU players would have missed another day of class, for a total of 3 days, if they had departed Portland later on Sunday….

Should they have realized sooner?  Probably, but in the fog of putting a schedule together a year or two in advance, some details can be overlooked.....

But yea, 10:30 on Sunday is REALLY early for me. tongue

You mean it's not about us fans?

OK, OK, I'll find some way to get over it.

Ha-ha, well, in a way it is......now we can rush downtown to watch the Timbers live (there are plenty of tickets on StubHub) or home to watch them on TV against the Galaxy tomorrow at 12:30ish.

Too bad they didn't have this all planned out sooner... You could have a breakfast theme for food options. Maybe bloody marys and mimosas in the tent. I mean Soccer Brunch sounds pretty delightful to me.

Have you asked Bill Reedor Mellissa ?

My understanding is the pregame in Seattle I'll be well attended.

Bring on the regular season….

With almost everyone apparently in Seattle this morning, the guys played a very strong second half against a short-handed SMU team and won 3-0.

After an own-goal in the first half, Jaime Velasco and freshman Eddie Sanchez each scored for the fourth time this season in the second half.

For those few who braved the elements today…..it was no problem blocking anyone’s view with an umbrella…..but with 5 wins and 3 losses in the preseason, I think the guys are playing well enough to deserve a few more fans going forward.

Next Friday and Sunday the team is at USF and SMC….but they’ll be back at Merlo Field on October 11 and 13 against USD and LMU.
