I think it still might be possible for the men to get into the tournament. They had to get their RPI into the low to mid 30's and I don't think losing to a #3 is all that bad in the eyes of the selection committee.

But we won't know until it's announced. cross you fingers..

Ugh... what a heartbreaker of a game. Here's a good article from today's O:

http://blog.oregonlive.com/sportsupdates/2007/11/up_mens_soccer_playoff_hopes_s.html

Bigs seems confident they will get the nod. I'm not so sure... it's times like this you really regret those early season losses to Bakersfield and Furman.

Still, I think there's no doubt the way the team is playing right now they are a post-season caliber team. I hope late-season performance will be factored in!

On a side note... have you ever seen a more ridiculous own goal than the one Santa Clara gifted to the Pilots yesterday? Easily the worst own goal I've ever seen in my life.

For those who weren't there braving the rain and cold... a long ball was sent forward by the Pilots and well out of reach for any Pilot attacker. The Santa Clara keeper came out of the box to boot it forward, and hit a low, line-drive bullet. A Santa Clara defender turned to run forward, and the ball hit him in the middle of the back, bounced over the keeper's head, and rolled about 25 yards into the goal. The Bronco keeper tried in vain to chase it down, but the ball wouldn't slow down on the wet grass.

Absolutely unbelievable...

Stonehouse: ditto on the own goal. That was a real noggin' scratcher, especially given how well they were playing at that point of the match. Just jaw-dropping.
