Sara Jackman

Sara has the largest photo of a UP soccer player I've seen in some time in the Oregonian this morning. It's a good photo, but it's not in the Sports section. It's in an article about purses, she's on the cover of the "How We Live" section of the paper. Way to go Sara!

Man, I looked all over Oregon Live this morning looking for the article so I could put it in my post. Obviously I don't have your search skills!

... first hit

followed by Jackman kicks Pilots to victory over Rutgers

I guess my mistake was going to the Oregonlive webpage and using their search engine.

Haha I just scrolled down on the front page and there it was toward the lower left....

Not to be all grumpy, BUT... I don't think it does the story justice to say it's about purses.

It's an fund-raising auction for Girls, Inc., which is a nonprofit that helps empower young grils.

Sara spearheaded an effort from other UP players and worked with a local company - Mi Mo Hanbags - to design a purse that will be auctioned off at the event.

So, no... it's not just about purses. It's another example of these amazing ambassadors of the University of Portland giving back to the community. Kudos to Sara and the rest of the Pilots who worked on this!

I'm a 60 year old guy, I don't normally read articles with a big headline starting with "Purses.......". Luckily I recognized Sara in the photo or I'd not have given it even the cursory look that I did. I'm willing to concede that I missed the main point of the article as Stonehouse pointed out. It is as he says another good example of the humanity of the women on the team.

Oh shoot... I didn't mean to critcize. I mean, yes, the article was about purses.

But as the dutiful PR flack for the University that I am, I wanted to point out the charitable work aspect of it.
