Pilot Nicknames Empty Pilot Nicknames

Post by Stonehouse Sat Nov 15, 2008 11:52 pm

So MattyWizz, DaTruRocin, and I are all hanging out in my apartment, coming up with nicknames for our beloved Pilots. Here are the fruits of our labor:

Ethan "Needles" Niedermeyer - Because he sticks it in the nylon

Nik "Three Cheese" Ravio-"li" - Because he plays three positions - point, shooting guard, small forward

Jasonn "Steam Boat" Hannibal - Because Mark Twain was a steam boat pilot and he's from Hannibal, Missouri. Come on people, work with me!

Luke "The Gospel" Sikma - Because he's the straight Gospel truth

Jared Stohl "Softener" - Because he softens the defense

Robin "Double Dutch" Smeulders - Because he goes for double-doubles

"Cosmo" Kramer Knutson - Because he's a goofy son of a gun out there, and we love him for it

TJ "Mmm Mmm" Campbell - Because he's flat out good

Taishi "The Judge" Ito - Because he rules the court

BJ "Black Butte" Porter - Because... um... I don't know. Because Black Butte Porter is delicious.

"Captain" Nem"o" Mitrovic - Because his range is 20,000 leagues

John "Peggy" Hegarty - Because Peggy Haggerty invented the lava lamp

Eric Waterford "Crystal" - Because......... Waterford Crystal. I don't know.

The best two hours we ever spent in our life.

Some of those are really good. It's tough to get so many nick names to stick though. How about these?

Luke "the second coming" Sikma-- a tribute to his Dad...
"Little big man" Cambell--since he's short and stocky...
Live "Raivio"--short and simple and it would sound good on live radio...with occasional accidental mispronunciation...

And I Cosmo "Kramer" is hilarious so I second the vote for that!
lol!

I feel compelled to correct an ill researched misconception in the name of truth and the American way (and because Stoney caught me on the Lew Alcindor thing).

Peggy would have been about 8 when the Lava Lamp was invented. Its origin is credited to Singapore-born Edward Craven Walker, who invented the original and best-known lava lamp in the 1960s. His U.S. Patent 3,570,156 is proof of that. Read

The Haggerty family just had good business sense to buy the rights and trademark.

There.... I feel better now.

I can't believe you guys didn't go for "nicknack" Raivio for obvious reasons, and because you guys clearly weren't sober when you made up the list. Rolling Eyes

Of course we weren't sober. We were drunk on the kool-aid of a big win over a Pac-10 program.

OK so there were other names too... believe me we thought of quite a few...
"Cool Hand" Luke (too generic)....
Ethan "Ice Man" Niedermeyer (he makes Val Kilmer look soft, and this is basketball, not shirtless beach volleyball in jeans)....
There was the Stohl "Sample" (but we couldn't really make a basketball analogy like we could with Softener)
we thought of Hannibal "the Carthegenian," (but there wasn't really anything too catchy, nor anything historically significant... and "elephant infantry" really has no ring, plus Stoney and I love us some somewhat obscure literary references)
we had trouble with was Smeulders (We had "Batman", "Burt Ward" and "Chris O'Donnel"... and a bunch of others trying to make Smeulders and the word "smell" link together... it was a stretch)
Raivio (Littered with daddy references "Second Coming" "Round 2" and then stuff like "Niktorious" "Tricky"... etc)

I'm a big fan of calling Raivio "Second Coming."

But what would Fr. "I Don't Even Like Jesus Christ Superstar" Beauchamp think? Shocked

Yeah, the Second Coming for Raivio pays more tribute to UP. Great idea...although Jack Sikma was one heck of a player I know I'm in the minority as a Sonics fan...a fan without a team or an I-5 rivalry. Faint

No, you aren't alone... Although I cut my allegiance as soon as the the team was sold (The writing was on the wall)... And then they hired Nate.... And drafted Martell and Roy.... And it made it that much easier to find a new team to root for after a year or so of me generally swearing off the NBA

Here's 2 more. I thought I'd give One Stonehouse and DaTruRochin nicknames.

Stonehouse's nickname could be "Freakinstupid".
DaTruRochin's nickname could be "DaImDumb".

Just a thought when I've also been drinking.

Since these names may have been inspired by enjoyment of exquisite select beverages...how about...

"Hefeweizen" Smeulders to go along with
BJ "Blacke Butte" Porter.

Nah, Waynefan is legit. He gave Stohl the nickname "Magician" last year. Maybe we should stick with that.

As for "Hefeweizen" Smeulders... would "Heineken" make more sense? Or "Grolsch"?

Welcome back Wayne, if you keep posting Stonehouse and the others may give you a "nickname" also. Anybody posting is great, it keeps the board lively. I like to limit my insults to teams and message board members to the north of Portland.

However I may break that promise if that knucklehead on the St Mary's board keeps SHOUTING at everybody on every board he posts on. If I hear that Gent keep yelling to red-shirt Mickey McConnell that might do it. I may have to break my promise of only 2 screaming post''s this year. Of course I am somewhat bias I saw Mickey play Bayless pretty even for 4 games in his HS career and we know where Bayless is. I don't recall anybody from the WCC playing their Soph. year as a lottery pick Professional Athlete in a while
Sorry this unrelated topic is building steam guys, I cant heellpp it. Embarassed
